Horchata de Morro (Salvadoran Horchata)

Horchata de Morro is a popular non-alcoholic beverage from El Salvador, and our Citrus Zester with Channel Knife is perfect for adding a citrusy twist to this traditional drink.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup morro seeds (or substitute with rice and almonds)
  • 1/2 cup sesame seeds
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Ice
  • 1 orange for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Blend morro seeds, sesame seeds, and cinnamon stick until finely ground.
  2. Add water and blend again until well combined.
  3. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve or cheesecloth.
  4. Stir in sugar and vanilla extract until dissolved.
  5. Chill the horchata in the refrigerator.
  6. To serve, fill glasses with ice and pour the horchata over.
  7. Using the zester side of your tool, zest some orange peel over each glass for a citrusy aroma.
  8. With the channel knife feature, create an orange twist and place it on the rim of each glass for an elegant garnish.
