Celebrating the Chinese New Year in London with two friends from Hong Kong marked my first experience with Chinese 5 Spice. One day during the festivities, some of the many oriental restaurants in the city set up tents and provided samples of their fare. Kathy and Theresa went through the displays critiquing the various uses of some spice blends. I was later to learn exactly what it was they were speaking of. FOR BISCUIT DIP
Mix 1 tsp to 1/3 cup cranberry sauce for dip.
Pork Chops & Apple Sauce
2 tbsp olive oil 4 (1/2-inch thick) pork chops
3 cups applesauce 2 tsp 5 spice
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Place chops in an 8x12 inch baking dish, rub them with 5 spice and drizzle with oil. Cover chops with the applesauce. Cover and bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 45 minutes.
