Old World Cookies - Peanut Butter
Old World Cookies - Peanut Butter
A Classic American Legacy - Perfected for Your Kitchen
The Birth of an American Icon - In 1916, the brilliant botanist George Washington Carver published a groundbreaking peanut-based cookbook, featuring three revolutionary recipes for peanut butter cookies. His mission was profound: to promote peanuts as a vital crop replacement for cotton fields devastated by the destructive boll weevil. Though it took nearly two decades for America to fully embrace these nutty delights, by the 1930s peanut butter cookies had become a beloved household staple.
Interestingly, it was the fame of Ruth Wakefield's chocolate chip cookies that helped peanut butter cookies find their rightful place in American hearts. But unlike their chocolate counterparts, peanut butter cookies needed no accompaniment - they were destined to be stars in their own right.
