VINTAGE STANGL POTTERY GOLDEN HARVEST PATTERN
Stangl Pottery was founded in 1929 in Flemington, New Jersey, by Martin Stangl, later expanding to Trenton, NJ. In 1942, Stangl started to produce hand-carved, hand-painted dinnerware, which became very popular. The designs of Stangl dinnerware were created by Kay Hackett and featured folk art designs based on Pennsylvania Dutch motifs and nature, such as fruit, garden flowers, and thistles. Stangl contributed to the World War II effort by teaching basic techniques to local women so that the company could produce red clay dinnerware. Both the carvers and painters put their initials on the back of the dinnerware.
The Golden Harvest pattern was made from 1953-1978. It features a white and yellow lily on a blue-grey background with dark brown accents. Each item is marked "Stangl Pottery, Trenton, N.J." and "GOLDEN HARVEST." All but one piece has a clear artist/painter's mark, and some are also marked with a clear carver's mark. BREAD PLATES Set of 8 plates in excellent condition. The backs are a terra cotta color. 6 1/4" Diameter.
TEACUPS Set of 7 in excellent condition. 1 cup does not have a clear artist's mark but is believed to be original to this set. Each cup is 3 3/4" in diameter and 2" tall.
SMALL SAUCE/DESSERT BOWL This small, shallow bowl would make an excellent dish for sauce, oil, olives, or any small item you wish to serve. Features a wide brown band surrounding the lily design and a terra cotta-colored back. Measures 5 1/2"W x 1 1/4"H.
CREAMER & SUGAR BOWL SET This adorable set is the perfect complement to the teacups, or use it to serve a sauce/dressing and dry seasoning, such as coarse salt. The Interior of both pieces is terra cotta colored. The sugar bowl features two handles and a fitted lid.
